HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Stan Hill threw for five touchdowns and 392 yards to outduel Josh Cribbs as Marshall routed Kent State 49-33 Saturday.
Josh Davis caught three touchdown passes and had eight receptions for 144 yards for the Thundering Herd (3-3, 1-1 Mid-American Conference).
Hill threw touchdown passes of 27, 18 and 3 yards to Davis, 50 yards to Jason Schroeder and 49 yards to Darius Watts. He finished one shy of the school record of six passing TDs, set by Chad Pennington and Byron Leftwich.
Earl Charles rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns in his first start for Marshall.
Cribbs became the first Division I-A player since 2000 with rushing, passing and receiving touchdowns in one game. He caught a 29-yard touchdown pass, rushed for a 10-yard TD and had three touchdown passes for the Golden Flashes (3-4, 2-2).
Hill was sharp early in his first start since spraining his left knee Sept. 6 against Tennessee.
Opponents were throwing for 228 yards per game against Kent State's defense. Hill surpassed that by halftime and finished 27 of 32 passing with two interceptions.
Cribbs hit Najah Pruden down the left sideline for a 97-yard touchdown in the final minutes. His other touchdown passes covered 18 and 3 yards.
Cribbs led Kent State with 30 rushing yards and was 15 of 31 for 319 yards passing with an interception.
Charles scored on runs of 4 and 3 yards as the replacement for Butchie Wallace, out with a broken right hand.
